The Survey:
Many species of shorebirds are declining throughout the US through disturbance, polluted sites and habitat loss. Starting in 2007 we began to survey the numbers of migrating shorebirds passing through Central Oregon in the spring and fall to form a base line from which to gauge population changes over time. In the fall we also record the numbers of immature and adult birds to obtain information on breeding success.
We follow the International Shorebird Monitoring Protocol so that data collected can be used for national and worldwide shorebird assessments.
